It is no secret that Jimmy LaFave, one of the top talents out there, is definitely at the top of my list of absolute favorite performers. His version of "Walk Away Renee" is the most beautiful I have ever heard, and his original "Red Dirt" Music seeps deep into your soul.
Jimmy LaFave recorded his first self produced tape, Highway Angels...Full Moon Rain in 1988, which won the Austin Chronicle Reader's Poll Tape of the Year Award. This led to a recording contract with a small independent label. In 1992 Jimmy released a self produced CD, Austin Skyline, which drew international attention to his songwriting and vocal talents, and led to a publishing agreement with Polygram Music.
Due to his growing popularity and radio play on more than 200 stations, Austin Skyline and its label, Bohemia Beat, received national distribution through the Rounder Record Group. His second album, Highway Trance was released in 1994 followed by his third CD, Buffalo Return to the Plains, in 1995. The grass roots demand and critical acclaim for Jimmy's music, which led to extensive touring in the United States and Europe, was recognized in 1996 when he was asked to tape a performance for the PBS musical series Austin City Limits, and was invited by Nora Guthrie to appear in Cleveland at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to Woody Guthrie. That same year LaFave won his second consecutive Austin Music Award for Best Singer Songwriter. His fourth CD, Road Novel, which was released in early 1997, received many glowing reviews. This stunningly soulful album was LaFave's first in 4 years and won him much critical attention. LaFave's new album Cimarron Manifesto finds Jimmy taking a more country road, with sweet and mournful songs about life and loss and special guest appearances by Carrie Rodriguez, Ruthie Foster and Kacy Crowley.
- The doors open 1/2 hour before the show, so if you are one who likes to sit right up front and watch the hands of the musicians, you may want to get there early to get a good seat.
- There is an appetizer/dessert/coffee/soda potluck at all of our shows, and food contributions are appreciated but definitely not required.. we are all confirmed choco-holics, so the more the merrier! At this venue, because it is at the library, there is a no alcohol policy...:( so sorry!...you can always stop at your favorite wine bistro on your way in...
- This show is $20 (all proceeds go to the musicians!)
See you at a show! If you can't get to one of ours, one of the other shows in the area... there is a lot of wonderful live music to see! Don't forget to click on the link below to RSVP.
