Head Start Training from The Private Client Law Group

Training Solutions for Nonprofits and Grant-Funded Entities

Overview

For years, health, safety, transportation, and facilities-related issues have been among the most common reasons for deficiencies and serious findings for Head Start and Early Head Start programs.  The Office of Head Start has given a special emphasis to these common, problem areas for grantees and delegate agencies.  That focus has not changed under the revised Head Start Program Performance Standards or the new Aligned Monitoring System 2.0 (which has been introduced for the 2018 Fiscal Year).  Head Start and Early Head Start agencies still need to make compliance with health, safety, transportation, and facilities requirements a priority.  By attending this special, two-day institute in Dallas, you will learn how your Head Start or Early Head Start program can satisfy vital health and safety rules (including transportation and facilities requirements), implement best practices, and avoid common problems.

Fourth Annual Head Start Health & Safety Institute

March 8 - 9, 2018

Exclusive Two-Day Event

Head Start and Early Head Start Training in Dallas

All Head Start and Early Head Start agencies must make compliance with health and safety requirements (including transportation and facilities rules) a priority.  Health, safety, transportation, and facilities issues have been the leading causes for deficiencies and major noncompliance findings for years, and the Office of Head Start has increasingly focused on these significant problem areas.  This emphasis on health and safety will not change under the revised Head Start Program Performance Standards, which have inspired a new Aligned Monitoring System 2.0 that changes the monitoring framework starting with the current Fiscal Year 2018.  Help your Head Start or Early Head Start program comply with critical health, safety, transportation, and facilities-related requirements, by attending the Fourth Annual Head Start Health & Safety Institute in Dallas, Texas, on March 8 - 9, 2018.   When you attend this unique training opportunity, you will learn not just about the rules that programs must follow under the revised Performance Standards and the Head Start Act but also how to implement best practices and respond to recent developments affecting health, safety, facilities, and transportation requirements, all while avoiding common deficiencies and other compliance problems.

The curriculum for this special Institute has been updated and revised for 2018 to incorporate recent changes ranging from the new Aligned Monitoring System 2.0 to updated facilities guidance.  During the Fourth Annual Health & Safety Institute, you will explore important Head Start and Early Head Start health, safety, transportation, and facilities topics in detail.  Over the course of two full days, you will learn about the following:

  • Meeting health and safety requirements under the Head Start Program Performance Standards and Head Start Act;
  • Preparing for the impact of the revised, Aligned Monitoring System 2.0 framework;
  • Avoiding common but critical environmental health and safety issues;
  • Implementing health services (including health status, nutrition, and mental health);
  • Applying health and safety requirements to different program options (including center-based, home-based, and family child care);
  • Responding to facilities-related issues and satisfying facilities rules under the revised Head Start Program Performance Standards;
  • Integrating Caring for Our Children Basic and related best practices;
  • Implementing active supervision;
  • Complying with Life Safety Code requirements;
  • Meeting requirements for child supervision and appropriate discipline;
  • Understanding environmental health and safety issues for non-center-based program options;
  • Implementing the revised transportation standards under the Performance Standards and best practices for safely transporting Head Start and Early Head Start children;
  • Identifying and mitigating risks related to health, safety, and transportation;
  • Implementing an effective ongoing monitoring system; and,
  • Addressing consequences of noncompliance and successfully responding to health and safety issues.

The Fourth Annual Head Start Health & Safety Institute in Dallas will discuss these topics and other critical information about health and safety requirements and best practices to prepare you to operate a safe and healthy, high-quality Head Start or Early Head Start program.  Throughout both days of the Institute, you will also have ample opportunities to ask and get answers to your individual questions about Head Start and Early Head Start health, safety, transportation, and facilities.
