Topic:
Managing Client Expectations Speaker(s): Bridget Harkins, CFP®, Regional Director Dimensional Fund Advisors _____________________________
|
Description:
This presentation focuses mainly on two of the CFP Board's Principal Topics, one being investment planning and the other interpersonal communication. The goal is to help advisors create a more informed client base which allows for higher levels of adherence to financial and investment planning over the long-term. The framework centers on the concept that clients have a mental anchor to the “market” and continuously compare their own results to it. Lengthening a client’s perspective can help alleviate the anxiety induced by shorter periods of dispersion between the two. The presentation employs a proxy for both a hypothetical globally diversified “portfolio” and a domestic, cap-weighted benchmark for the “market,” and proceeds to highlight their long-term comparisons in a variety of ways. These specific comparisons provide the advisor audience with tools they can employ into their own narratives that support their long-term investment planning and interpersonal communication efforts. *This topic has been approved by the CFP Board for 1.0 hour of CE credit.
