Are you an entrepreneur who wants to do well while doing good? Learn about the three legal entity structures at this free workshop sponsored by the Beaverton Library and find out which one is best for you to reach your personal goals and growth.

This session explains and clarifies the difference among the three types of entities: Nonprofits, For-Profits, and Benefit Companies.

Topics include:

  • How are nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses and benefit companies created in Oregon?
  • How does a business qualify as a ‘benefit company in Oregon?’
  • How does each of these entities operate?
  • Pros and cons of each type of entity: what to consider when choosing how to organize.
  • Options and creative ways to reach your personal goals when starting a new enterprise.

Presenter: Marilyn Scott

Marilyn Scott’s professional background is focused on communication, employee development and organizational dynamics. Before assuming a management position at Intel in Hillsboro, her career included managing employee and organizational development for the American Red Cross Southwest Region, and owning her own consulting business, MK Scott Consulting and Training. She has worked with many nonprofit organizations and consulted with United Way agencies. She presents SCORE workshops on business basics in addition to topics related to nonprofit management.
