Guest Speaker will be Mr. Micah Smith, Partner, Conn Maciel Carey (Washington, DC).

As we move through the 3^rd year of the Trump administration, the intense regulatory scrutiny of the refining and chemical industries that began during prior administrations has continued.  Micah's presentation will provide an update on current rulemaking, enforcement, and investigative initiatives from the process safety-related agencies:  OSHA, EPA, and CSB.  In addition to a discussion of the general trends observed during this administration, we will also discuss recent statements on these matters from agency officials during the 2^nd Annual Process Safety Summit in Washington, DC on October 16, 2019. 

Mr. Micah Smith is a Partner with Conn Maciel Carey’s national OSHA • Workplace Safety Practice Group. He represents clients on OSHA-related matters across a wide range of industries, with particular experience representing clients in the petroleum refining and chemical processing industries. Mr. Smith works with his clients to identify safety and health strategies that both increase employee safety and improve business performance.  Mr. Smith regularly advises clients on managing risk during OSHA inspections and responding to employee injuries or catastrophic incidents, and he has extensive experience defending employers against OSHA citations during litigation before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
