Managing Your Digital Identity: Webinar (9/30/14)

Googled yourself lately?  Professionals, researchers, and scholars are often expected to develop a digital identity in order to participate in professional networks and promote their work.  However, with countless tools and options available, crafting this identity can seem confusing and even a little dangerous!  This workshop will discuss reasons, tools, and strategies for creating a cohesive presence online and will explore social networking sites like LinkedIn and Twitter and easy web authoring tools.  Additionally, we will discuss using altmetrics and demonstrate tools such as ORCID, ImpactStory, and Figshare to consider new ways of assessing your professional and scholarly impact.

Virtual Trainer: Rebecca K. Miller, Information Literacy Coordinator & College Librarian, Virginia Tech

Rebecca K. Miller is the Information Literacy Coordinator & College Librarian for Science, Life Sciences, and  Engineering at Virginia Tech.  She holds an MLS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MA in Instructional Design & Technology from Virginia Tech, and a BA from the College of William and Mary in Virginia.  She co-edited Tablet Computers in the Academic Library (2014) and of an issue of Library Technology Reports dedicated to exploring tablets in reference and instruction. Currently, she is co-writing a book on training new library instructors (forthcoming 2015) and holds leadership positions in both national and state level professional organizations.  More information about Rebecca is available via her website:  http://www.rebeccakatemiller.com/
