iBooks Author - Creating Multi-Touch Ebooks for iPad: Webinar (08/20/14)

In this workshop, we’ll provide an overview of iBooks Author as a tool for creating multi-touch ebooks. iBooks Author is Apple’s free Mac application for creating interactive ebooks that can include slide-shows, videos, quizzes, 3D rotating images, and more.

Libraries are beginning to use iBooks Author to offer context and information to their exhibits and special collections in the form of an interactive ebook. We’ll look at specific examples from the New York Public Library, and also at interactive educational books from other institutions, such as museums and archives.

We’ll cover:

  • why you may want to choose this platform (and mention other platforms available)
  • what you need to know about selling these books or making them available for free on your website
  • what are the accessibility guidelines from Apple that make these books useful for people with disabilities
  • where to find templates and themes for your book
  • recommended resources for learning the details of iBooks Author

You’ll leave with an understanding of the possibilities of using this platform and see inspiring examples of what others are doing, sparking ideas for multi-touch ebooks that you could make from your own exhibits or special collections.
