NEFLIN Grant Series: Four Weeks to Success! 

IMPORTANT: This is a 4-week online Grant Series. 3 webinars are scheduled on Thursdays, April 23, April 30, and May 7 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm each day. You must attend all three sessions to avoid a no-show penalty.

 

Ready to take the guesswork out of grant work? Discover the confidence, knowledge, and skills you need to win library grants with Stephanie Gerding, grants expert and author of Winning Grants. This “flipped” online course will include weekly readings to complete before attending three online working sessions (webinars). Instead of working on assignments independently, you will have the opportunity for experiential learning during the interactive webinars.

You will learn the best method for writing grant proposals to give you the competitive edge. Discover how to plan and write grant proposals, including the nitty-gritty essentials of needs assessments, project development and evaluation. Find out who gives funding best suited for your library and how to find grant applications. Learn exactly what grant reviewers are looking for and how to bring clarity and professionalism to your grant proposals. Practical advice, valuable worksheets, and real library grant success stories will be provided to make grant work easier and more effective.

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

• Apply the basic process of grant work, including developing grant projects based on community needs and library planning;
• Find library grant funding sources best suited for your library;
• Write a proposal funders will love
• Be excited & confident about grant work! 

We'll cover everything to do with grant work, from beginning to end. You'll submit a short sample grant proposal and get personalized feedback from an expert grant reviewer.  

Assignments:

Each week you will have a reading to complete before the Thursday webinar. We will practice skills and complete assignments together during the webinar. Your final assignment is to submit a short draft grant proposal, which will be reviewed with feedback.

Recommended Text:

MacKellar & Gerding. Winning Grants: A How-To-Do-It Manual for Librarians with Multimedia Tutorials and Grant Development Tools. New York: Neal Schuman Publishers, Inc. This text is not required but it provides more information about each step in the grant, including a DVD with resources and success stories.

Virtual Trainer: Stephanie Gerding

Stephanie Gerding is a librarian, author, and trainer with 20 years of professional experience supporting libraries and nonprofits by providing training and consultations for clients around the world and online. She is a certified trainer for the Public Library Association and focuses on grants, advocacy, training, evaluation, and digital literacy topics. Stephanie has success in all areas of grant work as a reviewer, writer, trainer, project manager, and consultant. She has been a lead grant reviewer of LSTA, state grants, and scholarships at the Arizona State Library and New Mexico State Library and has reviewed grants for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. She has been awarded national grants and has been a program coordinator for many grant funded projects. Stephanie is an author of three books, including Winning Grants and The Accidental Technology Trainer.  She lives in Seattle, WA with her husband and charming seven year old daughter.

Cost: NEFLIN classes are free of charge for Florida library staff. Registration is required for all classes and NEFLIN members get priority.
