Status Up-dates on Florida’s Next Gen Library catalog and the new Florida Academic Library Service Cooperative (FALSC)

Public academic libraries in Florida, in collaboration with Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative (FALSC) of the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC), are currently undertaking the largest integrated academic library catalog/ discovery system (Next Gen Catalog) transition in Florida’s history. This huge multi-year transition will ultimately impact virtually every public academic library staff member in the state. Please join us for an online discussion as Lucy Harrison, FALSC Interim Executive Director, along with other FALSC staff, will provide us with an overview of how this massive project is progressing, and how you can help support a smooth “Next Gen” system transition at your institution. FLVC leaders will also provide updates on evolving state-wide academic library services through the newly created Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative (FALSC). Interest Group Leader: Tom Messner, Florida State College at Jacksonville

Mr. Tom Messner is the Executive Dean of the Library and Learning Commons at Florida State College at Jacksonville, in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Messner has over 20 years of administrative experience in public and private academic libraries. His prior library experience includes positions with the University of Tulsa, Northeastern State University, and Barry University. He holds an MLIS from the University of Oklahoma, and a BSBA degree in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Arkansas. He has served in a number of capacities at multi-type library cooperatives within Florida, most recently serving on the Board of Directors at the Southeast Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN).
