Creating Amazing Prezi Presentations: 2-Part Webinar (05/15 and 05/22/17)

IMPORTANT: This is a 2-part webinar that meets on Mondays, May 15th and 22nd, from 10 - 11:30 am each day. You will register once to attend both sessions.

Creating amazing Prezi presentations (that work for you AND your audience)

This workshop is for information professionals interested in using Prezi to create presentations in the library context. Prezi is a free online presentation tool which has become the most popular alternative to PowerPoint. It works in a completely different way, and has different strengths and weaknesses.

Prezi is an amazing tool, capable of bringing the wow factor into presenting - but often prezis are more impressive than they are effective for the audience. We'll focus on creating presentations that work to communicate your message, and that dazzle without making the audience feel sea-sick, which is the most common criticism of Prezi.

We'll look at the basics of how Prezi works and why you might want to use it, the pros and cons, examples (such as this free-falling presentation which shows of Prezis ticks and tips, or this interactive library map from the trainer, Ned Potter, which uses Prezi in a completely different way), and guidance on how to make a good one.

Format

This will be a two part webinar, with time for hands-on experimentation with Prezi between the two sessions. Part 2 will start with a 'drop-in' style Q&A to work through any questions participants have as a result of their own experimentation with the too. Full documentation and written instructions will also be provided.

Who should attend?

Anyone who wants to explore Prezi to create face-to-face or online presentations. This is aimed beginners and mid-level users alike: no previous experience of Prezi is necessary. Signing up for a free Prezi account (at https://prezi.com) is recommended.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this hands-on session attendees will:

  • Have learned to create Prezis using the excellent templates the tool provides
  • Have explored the features most useful for those working in the library environment
  • Have looked at relevant examples, including building interactive maps of the library
  • Have used images and icons, as well as embedding videos
  • Know how to create an effective presentation that won't leave the audience suffering from motion-sickness
