How To Effectively Coach/Mentor/Train Your Employees - NEFLIN (5/16/18)

One of the most important roles of a supervisor/manager is to grow employee capacity and specifically grow their skill sets. This program is designed to help supervisors learn what they need to know about helping employees achieve their full potential through coaching, mentoring, and training. From defining performance targets to supporting staff as they progress, this program will show supervisors how to motivate employees to develop themselves, promoting initiative and self-responsibility. Learn about the differences between mentoring, coaching, and training---and why all are important when working with employees. Also, learn how to develop the coaching approach as a supervisor/manager, how to use the push and pull styles of coaching, and fill out a self-assessment instrument to find out your current individual coaching skill level.

Participants will be able:

To identify characteristics of great coaches
To describe how to mentor---the mentoring process
To explain the differences between coaching and mentoring
To describe different coaching styles (push and pull)---what is the preferred style in a given situation

To create a basic employee training plan based on performance expectations and needs
To describe effective communication practices
To describe how to evaluate training activities

Trainer: Michael Clark, MRC Consulting

null Michael Clark has an extensive background in the areas of management and supervisory development, quality improvement efforts, facilitation of strategic planning sessions and executive retreats, and one-on-one executive coaching. He worked as aTraining and Performance Improvement Director for various State of Florida government agencies for many years and has been the Owner/President of MRC Consulting for fifteen years. He has designed numerous training programs (including online) using the Instructional Systems Design Methodology, and has delivered over 2000 seminars, workshops, and presentations covering a diverse set of topics, with a focus towards developing leadership skills for managers and supervisors.

Mr. Clark has earned a B. S. degree in Experimental Psychology, a M.Ed., and has completed the course work for a Ph.D. in Educational Administration with an emphasis in Instructional Systems Design Methodology at Florida State University.

Cost: NEFLIN classes are free of charge for Florida library staff. Registration is required for all classes and NEFLIN members get priority.
