Libraries Unplugged (06/15/18) 

                                            

What is an Unplugged Library?

 As data, technology, and the Internet of Things continue to creep in on everyday aspects of our lives, many users are looking for a way to escape this hyper connected way of life, if only for a little while.

Examples of Unplugged programming could include:

• Sewing and knitting groups
• Adult Summer Reading discussion groups
• Board games
• Homeschooler events
• Movie nights
• Escape Rooms
• Library Comic Cons
• Cooking demonstrations and lessons
• Sharing resources from little-accessed Special Collections

In other words, things that are similar, yet different from what we've all been doing for years. What have you done to activate the spaces in your buildings? Have you removed your periodical reading room and replaced it with a sewing lab? Do you now have a vibrant Teen space in a previously unused conference room? Libraries could give people quiet spaces for reading and reflecting or bring families together in rambunctious creative activities. The perception of libraries as a quiet space can be utilized to the library’s advantage, marketing at least some space in their buildings as places to unplug, concentrate, and focus. 

In other words, this conference is what YOU make it. We want to share the success stories from throughout the region. Send us your proposals for whatever you are the most proud of achieving at your library and we will give you the chance to share it with the world (or at least a quarter of the third most populous state in the USA). 

A buffet lunch will be provided that meets most dietary restrictions and needs.

• Non Member Presenter:  $35
• All Other Florida Library Staff:  Non Member:  $65
