Managing Your Email & Online Communities: The Ocean Needs More Than a Teaspoon - Webinar (10/22/19)

Email and other online communications in the Library workplace.

Most people have methods to deal with printed junk mail involving dumpsters, shredding machines, and cast-iron stoves. But unless you have a human secretary or artificial intelligence-based filtering protocols (meaning imaginary software elves), the average person can feel a tad overwhelmed. Workplaces including libraries need human guidelines to manage e-mail and social media among coworkers and the public.

The goal of this webinar is to reduce stress and improve productivity. Topics include the importance of labeling and prioritizing, eliminating the Panic Button (meaning, it can wait), limiting email and social media regarding topics and length of posts, privacy and confidentiality, how laws effect library communication. Filtering strategies, and methods for structuring online communications.

Virtual Trainer: Pat Wagner

Pat Wagner has been as a trainer and consultant for the library community since 1978. She is a frequent visitor to Florida libraries and speaks at national and regional library conferences as well as contributes to several online library training organizations.

80 % of Pat’s business runs online, from communicating with clients in other time zones to monitoring feeds about topics pertinent to her business to paying bills, booking travel, and ordering supplies. And she has fallen down the social media rabbit hole more than once. Planning and sticking to some simple deadlines work!

This is an online class. Access information will be emailed one week ahead.

Cost: NEFLIN classes are free of charge for Florida library staff. Registration is required for all classes and NEFLIN members get priority.
