Building Trust and Support for Your Library’s New Technology - Webinar (04/21/20)

You want your library co-workers to be as excited as you are about the new hardware and software, the mobile devices and online services, and the more efficient protocols for using computers at the library. But winning them over is going to be more about your workplace relationship with them than the benefits of the new tools you are introducing.

For example, if your job description includes tech support, what’s your track record helping co-workers and library users? Have you shown empathy with their struggles to become competent with the library’s tech tools and services? And do you step up and speak out when they need your backing for something important to them, which has nothing to do with your department. You all work for the same library, right?

And, are you being honest from the get-go about timelines and budgets? Are you addressing concerns about adding work to their busy days without anything being removed? The need for training? Expectations of the costs and benefits of the old versus the new and how long it will take to move to the new systems? And how will success be evaluated?

Learn how to manage people–your library’s most valuable asset–during times of change and earn their trust as you help them leverage productivity. Topics include: supporting changes your co-workers want and need, engaging them in creating and evaluating new hardware, software, and peripheral purchases, helping them to understand purchasing protocols, and showing them how you listen to, respect, and act on their concerns.
