How to Talk to Faculty: Interview Strategies for Liaison Librarians
- Webinar (08/25/20)

Would you like your faculty to think of you as more than a buyer of resources and a helper of students?

This webinar is designed to help academic liaison and subject librarians engage more deeply with their faculty through conversational interviews. The presentation draws from standard library literature on interview techniques.

The webinar covers:

  • Planning for the interview
  • Questions to ask and how to probe
  • How and when to talk about the library during the interview
  • How to suggest and refer faculty to other library staff and services
  • Some easy ways to track and document your interviews

Virtual Trainer: Rita Vine

Rita Vine, MA, MLS is a professional librarian and facilitator who helps librarians deepen outreach, engagement, and institutional impact while honoring cherished practices and professional values.

Formerly Head of Faculty & Student Engagement at the University of Toronto, Rita coordinated the work of over 80 liaison librarians at the University, and has been a liaison librarian serving disciplines from music to medicine. In 2017-18 Rita was a Visiting Program Officer for the Association of Research Libraries, where she led ARL’s Reimagining the Library Liaison project. Rita now splits her time between Florida and Toronto Canada where she continues to consult with libraries and related organizations. In her spare time she is an avid competitive swing dancer.

This is an online class. Access information will be emailed one week ahead.
