Books as Art: Giving a second life to discarded books - NEFLIN HQ (02/08/23)

Don't throw away those books you've
weeded from your collection!

Let's turn them into art masterpieces!

Some books are beyond repair and inevitably need to be discarded. This workshop will teach you how to re-use these printed materials and turn them into display and programs ideas for your library. It is a hands-on workshop geared to library programing staff on a budget.

Some projects you will make:
  • Collage techniques
  • Book page folding
  • Photography
  • Poetry
Bring some books for us to play with!

Trainer: Marie Andree

After more than ten years of teaching art in a public library setting, Marie Andree is now an art educator at Duval County Public Schools.

She holds a MA in art education from the University of Florida and has years of experience training library staff and preschool teachers.

Cost: NEFLIN classes are free of charge for Florida library staff. Registration is required for all classes and NEFLIN members get priority.

This project was funded either under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services or the Library Cooperative Grant program. Florida’s LSTA and LCG programs are administered by the Department of State’s Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2022-23, the total state and federal budgets for NEFLIN's programs are $688,109. 42% of the total costs ($288,109) are supported by federal funds, and 58% of this program ($400,000) is supported by state funds.
