 Meeting Information

The next meeting of the year will be June 23, 2023 from 10:30-2:00 at the Main library branch of the Jacksonville Public Library in downtown Jacksonville.

Agenda
10:30 -11:00 Welcome/Icebreaker
11:00 -11:30 Guest Speaker
11:30 -1:00 Scavenger Hunt/Tour of the library
1:00 -2:00 Lunch downtown

Join us in the biggest city in Florida for a fun day filled with all things public library. We will start out with an icebreaker challenge to get our creative wheels turning then listen to an engaging talk about the potential and possibilities in public libraries. Then it’s time for some competitive scavenger hunting as we tour the 5 floors of the Jacksonville Public Library’s Main branch. The winner(s) will be sweetly rewarded! To finish the fun day, we will provide you with a great list of restaurants within walking distance of the library or you’re invited to bring your lunch and eat in our lovely courtyard or in James Weldon Johnson park across the street. (Validated parking available in the garage on Duval Street beside the library.)

Interest Group Facilitator:  Claire Olson

Welcome to the public library interest group everyone! I am the project manager for the JaxKids Book Club at the Jacksonville Public Library. Prior to this position, I worked as the Teen librarian in our Main branch. I graduated with my MLIS from Valdosta State University in 2021 so I’m a newbie and really excited about the power and the possibility of public libraries. I’m especially interested in library outreach and how public libraries can serve the needs of their communities through collaboration and creativity. I think we all bring such talent and experience to our roles in the public library – it’s what makes us all so cool! Join me this year as we explore the possibilities of our public libraries.

Cost: NEFLIN Interest Groups are free of charge and are open to NEFLIN members only.  Registration is strongly encouraged.

This project was funded either under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services or the Library Cooperative Grant program. Florida’s LSTA and LCG programs are administered by the Department of State’s Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2022-23, the total state and federal budgets for NEFLIN's programs are $688,109. 42% of the total costs ($288,109) are supported by federal funds, and 58% of this program ($400,000) is supported by state funds.
