Marketing to Gen Z: Lessons from Tommy G's at UNF
Are you having difficulty connecting with teens and early 20-somethings? Looking for ways to make your library more appealing to Zoomers? Maria Atilano, Student Engagement Librarian at University of North Florida’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library (also known as Tommy G’s), works with this audience every semester and will share the tips, tricks, and pitfalls to watch out for to help you break through to this always-challenging group. From outreach to social media to interactive exhibits, Maria will talk about it all, and answer any questions you might have. Don't miss this opportunity to talk with an expert in the library marketing field!
Guest Speaker
Maria Atilano is the Student Engagement Librarian at the University of North Florida’s Thomas G. Carpenter Library in Jacksonville, Florida. She began working in academic libraries in 2002 as a student employee while studying at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Before becoming a librarian, Maria held staff positions as Library Services Specialist in Public Services and Sr. Library Services Associate in Special Collections at UNF. She graduated with her MLIS from Florida State University in 2012. Maria’s research interests include social media, library marketing, student engagement, and instruction.
Interest Group Facilitator: Chris Boivin
In nearly 30 years in marketing and communications, there aren’t many marketing mistakes Chris Boivin hasn’t made, or marketing frustrations he hasn’t encountered. But he’s learned from everything and it’s taken him to leadership positions across several industries including health insurance, consumer data, grocery data, credit unions, and public libraries. As the marketing director at Jacksonville Public Library, Boivin and his team help library customers solve their problems so they can become the heroes of their own stories. To continuously learn more about and give more to library marketing, Boivin founded the Library Marketing Book Club (www.librarymarketingbookclub.org), is secretary of the Library Marketing Communications Group board, which manages library marketing’s premiere annual event: the Library Marketing Communications Conference (www.librarymarketingconference.org), and is proud to facilitate NEFLIN’s Library Marketing Interest Group.
Cost: NEFLIN Interest Groups are free of charge and are open to NEFLIN members only. Registration is strongly encouraged.
