Motivational Interviewing Training: Introductory

This training will focus on the development of Motivational Interviewing(MI) skills and techniques. It will provide an overview of the efficacy of MI as an evidence-based practice and how to implement MI in clinical practices. Participants will practice MI techniques and learn how MI can enhance client rapport and improve patient outcomes.

After this training participants will:

  • Understand the core concepts of MI; including MI spirit, OARS, sustain talk vs. change talk
  • Understand how MI fits with the transtheoretical model of the stages of change
  • Recognize MI's effectiveness through experiential learning and practice
  • Understand how the adoption and practice of MI can improve treatment plans

This training is open to anyone who works to improve behavioral health and wellness including but not limited to social workers, counselors, peers and providers.

This training will be facilitated by Alexander Waitt, LPC, an experienced MI practitioner and SBIRT trainer with a commitment to delivering quality trainings that have a positive lasting effect.

Lunch will not be provided.
