We are asking each walker to carry a HUMAN RIGHT sign that will be provided. We have 200 HUMAN RIGHTS signs. For the length of the walk HUMAN RIGHTS will be held high by as many people as are walking at any time. Our aim is that at mile 21 there will be 200 people joining to carry 200 HUMAN RIGHTS into Catskill.

Safety for Walkers

All along the route there will be people ahead of the walkers with Caution Walkers Ahead Signs

-- WE WILL ALWAYS WALK SINGLE FILE.

-- WE WILL STAY ON THE LEFT SIDE, OFF THE ROAD.

-- WE WILL BE WALKING TOWARDS ON-COMING TRAFFIC (State Law)

-- WE WILL SPACE OURSELVES 6 to 8 FEET APART.

-- WE WILL BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL going around BLIND CURVES.

-- WE WILL LISTEN FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC.

-- STAY ALERT.

-- STAY HYDRATED – SIX WATER STATIONS WILL BE SET UP.

-- WEAR CLOSED SHOES AND LONG PANTS TO PREVENT SKIN CONTACT POISON IVY.

-- CELL PHONE SERVICE FOR MOST CARRIERS IS AVAILABLE ALONG MOST OF THE ROUTE.

If you feel tired or dizzy stop walking and sit down off the road - someone will come by with a vehicle and pick you up. If you can stop at a water station or exchange point, that will be best, but if you are dizzy or in pain, stop where you are.

The route is winding, with many blind curves.  Route 9W, between Saugerties and Catskill, is a particularly

curvy road.  On the left side of the road, where we will be walking, it is often very narrow.

In the Villages of Woodstock, Saugerties and Catskill we will be walking on sidewalks.

We encourage people to join us for the last mile into Catskill.  There are sidewalks along the way.

We will join up at The Price Chopper Parking Lot in Catskill.

Please Register for the Walk and the Community Dinner

so we know to plan for your participation.
