Poster Contest Call for Entries: "Recycling - Good for Communities" 

The Nebraska Recycling Council (NRC) is pleased to announce a poster competition for Nebraska artists. The poster theme is: "Recycling - Good for Communities". Cash awards will be provided for the top 3 submissions. All emerging and established Nebraska artists are encouraged to submit an entry. The winning poster will be used to promote recycling, offered to elected officials, and sold at recycling related events. The winner will be announced and the winning poster will be on display at NRC’s Awards Luncheon on Friday, October 4th, 2019.  Submissions can be made from June 1 – August 1, 2019. Deadline for submission:  August 1, 2019

JUROR:  KAREN KUNC

Karen Kunc has exhibited and sold her artworks around the world in her more than 30 years as a professional artist. The renowned artist, teacher and mentor has established her reputation internationally in woodcut printmaking and book arts, both as a producer and teacher.

Kunc is founder and director of Constellation Studios, a creative gallery, workspace and professional classroom in a refurbished and historic building in Lincoln, Nebraska in 2013. She continues to serve as the Willa Cather Professor and Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she has taught since 1983. She is the founder of the school’s Under Pressure Print Club — a community-based support group for UNL printmakers.

OFFICIAL GUIDELINES

  • Entries:  Fee $15.00 / $10 student.  Limit ONE submission per artist. Only ORIGINAL artwork will be considered. Any artwork submitted without entry fee is disqualified.
  • Qualifications: Artists must be 18 years or older and must live or work in Nebraska.
  • Design: Artwork should measure no larger than 12” x 17” high and be in vertical (portrait) orientation. The poster must include the words, “Recycling – Good for Communities”.  (For context: Recycling and sustainable materials management creates jobs, enhances local economies, saves on landfill space, reduces greenhouse gas emissions.)
  • Limitations and Disqualifications:
    • Posters that include personal or corporate information will be disqualified.
    • Posters using copyrighted, trademarked products, packaging, brand names and advertisements will be disqualified.
    • Posters misspelling or excluding the theme words will be disqualified.
    • Original signed release forms are required for persons, whether public or private citizens, who are photographed and appear on the poster.
  • Electronic resolution and Format: Artwork must be submitted in electronic format with a resolution of 300 dpi and in jpg format. (Poster winner will be requested to resubmit poster at a higher resolution for reproduction purposes.)
  • Submitting your entry: Complete registration form and payment online, then email artwork to:  banderzhon@nrcne.org with “Poster Contest – [Name of artist]” in the subject line. Artwork submitted prior to registration will be disqualified.
  • Deadline for submission:  August 1, 2019
  • Judging and winner selection: All entries will be reviewed by the juror. The top 3 choices will then be put to an online vote of NRC members. The competition will be judged on the following criteria:
    • Marketability of poster to multiple audiences                    10 points
    • Creative, original artwork and concept                              10 points
    • Attractiveness and graphic impact                                    10 points
    • Strength of visual expression related to poster theme      10 points
  • Final poster: Nebraska Recycling Council will be added along with sponsor logos below the winning image. All winning submissions become the property of the Nebraska Recycling Council and may be used for commercial purposes. NRC reserves the right to reject all submissions for the poster design.
