Locally, in 2008, the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center at the University of Nevada, Reno opened its doors to the public thanks to the support and donations of Charles Mathewson and IGT. With technologically advanced amenities such as the automated book retrieval system, the $5 million investment from IGT was more than just a financial provision for the campus; it was a progression in the educational momentum in the City of Reno.
In 2011, IGT assisted northern Nevada citizens during extreme times of need. In the wake of the tragic Caughlin Fire, IGT donated $10,000 to the Red Cross. The donation was used for the Red Cross’ temporary shelters and other emergency services for those community members who lost their homes or have been impacted by the fires.
A longtime supporter of The Children’s Cabinet, IGT employees sponsored 48 families for the organization’s Adopt-A-Family program in December of 2011. Departments within Reno’s campus joined together to donate hundreds of gifts to families in need.
In December 2011, the Company also donated $10,000 to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada to help provide meals to those in need in the community. The $10,000 donation translated into 40,000 meals for northern Nevada residents struggling with hunger. The same month, IGT also donated $10,000 to the Reno Rodeo Foundation to assist with its essential programs.
