Featured will be the MTA widening project and the Portland International Jetport sustainability project.

Safety vests and hard hats required for portions of the Tour.

MAINE TURNPIKE WIDENING IN PORTLAND

In the fall of 2018, the Maine Turnpike Authority kicked off a five-mile, four-year, $145 million widening program that will create a safer, smoother highway and reduce traffic congestion through the Portland area. The program includes the construction of new northbound and southbound travel lanes, four bridge replacements, the widening of four other bridges, construction of a new Exit 45 and other safety-related improvements. Construction is currently underway on five of the bridges with individual projects related to the widening expected to continue for the next three years.

PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL JETPORT SUSTAINABILITY

In 2016, the Jetport commissioned the first on-airport facility in the United States to capture, recycle and remanufacture aircraft de-icing fluid as part of a closed loop system. Today, the facility recycles glycol-contaminated stormwater, including de-icing fluid from other airports in the region. The tour will include a work-in-progress look at the Jetport’s third aircraft de-icing pad under construction this summer by Sargent Corporation. When complete, the three pads will allow the Jetport to de-ice three aircraft simultaneously, reducing delays during peak travel times.

Tour Cost is $85 per person and includes bus transportation and lunch.
