This workshop will provide education and training techniques for healthcare professionals and families caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia disorders. Participants will be able to:
- Identify the various types of dementia including Alzheimer's disease
- Describe the etiology, symptoms and stages of Alzheimer's disease
- Describe common behaviors associated with dementia of the Alzheimer's type
- Understand how Alzheimer's and related dementia change the brain and affect communication and behavior
- Identify three ways to interpret behaviors as communication
- Discuss three ways to adapt the environment so that it gives the person back control
