Join the Livable Communities Coalition, Arizona Transit Association and the Arizona Department of Transportation at the Mesa Marriott Hotel on April 12th, to celebrate a unique collaboration.

We’ve teamed up to provide a customized sustainability track on day 3 of this conference that underscores the vital connections between:

  • Public transportation
  • Sustainable growth; and
  • Efficient and effective transit operations

Sessions on mobility management and transit programs will be woven with practical applications of long term sustainability, transit oriented growth and management options that will show you how to build new partnerships that ensure effective investment of time and resources in a recovering economy.  Take a peek at the sessions listed below and what you’ll learn.

 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

  • From Backlash to Buy-In: A Model for Effective Community Engagement

The prospect of greater public participation can be daunting, even frightening.  Teresa Brice, Executive Director of LISC Phoenix, will present "Making Sustainable Communities Happen", a civic engagement project created by ASU to educate and engage community members about sustainability principles. Serena Unrein, Public Interest Advocate for Arizona PIRG will lead a discussion about the barriers to and benefits of effective community engagement.

  • We’ve Lost Our Funding – What Now? Innovative Strategies for Funding Infrastructure:  Opportunities and Challenges for 2011 and Beyond

This session will explore innovative funding concepts and collaborations between government, private organizations and nonprofits to find creative revenue sources to help accomplish your mission.

  •  Growing Your Own (Ridership) - Encouraging Transit Oriented Development

In the past, transit lines were dictated by development patterns. What happens if the inverse was true and development is dictated by existing transit? Hear from developers creating Transit Oriented Developments and learn how the entire community can support TOD and positively impact ridership.

  •  Walkability = Increased Transit Ridership - Learning to Walk the Walk

What hazards and impediments do riders - including the elderly, the disabled & children - face on their way to the bus stop/transit station?  Have you ever "walked in their shoes?"  This session includes an overview of the correlation between walkability and ridership followed by a walkability assessment near the conference site.

NOTE - Please wear comfortable shoes for the walking portion of this session.

We are offering this day-long track to Coalition members at a reduced rate of $100* and we have a limited number of scholarships. Go to the registration page to check on scholarship availability.  Click the button below and join the growing list of attendees.
