

SCORE Ventura County presents its acclaimed series of Saturday Workshops targeted to new or planned businesses. Each workshop runs from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, offering a full day of informative training. This series is designed to help prospective new small business owners understand the start-up process and then start developing their financial, marketing and business plans.
EACH STUDENT GETS AN ASSIGNED SCORE COUNSELOR TO ASSIST AFTER EVERY WORKSHOP AND AS LONG AS NEEDED

Workshop Dates and Agenda:
#1 September 8 - How to Start a Business Intro: Self-assessment of your skills, doing market research, choosing a name and an image, how much money you need and where to find it, hiring employees, developing a marketing and sales plan, understanding your competitive advantage, understanding the financials and how to develop a business plan. This workshop will also provide you with the basic steps needed to protect your intellectual property, get the necessary permits, and decide on an organizational structure.Legal structure and legal issues are covered by our SCORE lawyer in this workshop!
#2 September 15 - How to Build a Financial Plan: Financial Statements are the “report card” for your business. You will learn what they mean and how to use them. The ability to interpret the data and understand their meaning is imperative to making your endeavor a success. This workshop will help you classify and analyze your data correctly, manage cash flow, and then how to use financial information to understand, maintain and grow your business.
#3 September 22 - How to Build a Marketing Plan: Your marketing budget, doing market research, distribution channels, media and tools available for marketing, where are your customers, effective targeting, media selection, creating your marketing calendar, SWOT analysis, advertising and sales promotion, sales formation and monitoring.
#4 September 29 - How to Write a Business Plan: “It is not what it looks like, it is what it says”: SCORE's unique 7 step, modular approach to developing key elements of a sound business plan. Research; The Company; Products/Services; Marketing Plan; Financial Plan with Forecasting; and what it takes to Attract Funding. A business plan forces you to think out all the facets of your business, it gives you the tools to evaluate how you are doing and is a must to acquire financing. Learn how to set up your business goals, analyze your market, and forecast your earnings. During this session you will actually start or update your existing business plan. Workbook provided.
