Building Communities, Not Audiences: A Discussion on the Future of the Arts in the United States

The arts are an under-appreciated and under-utilized resource in the U.S. today, a situation that is detrimental to communities and to the arts. Winston-Salem’s Doug Borwick argues that for the future of arts institutions and the well-being of communities, deeper relationships between the two must be formed.

Dr. Borwick’s presentation about his book will be followed by a panel discussion featuring arts leaders from across North Carolina. They will consider the importance of forging strong ties between the arts and the broader community. A reception and book signing will follow.

Panelists Include:

Dr. Doug Borwick Author, Building Communities, Not Audiences and “Engaging Matters” blog  on ArtsJournal.com, CEO ArtsEngaged.

Mr. John L. Moore, III Principal, JOMA Arts&Consulting, LLC, management consulting and project development.

Ms. Karen Wells Executive Director ARTS North Carolina and registered lobbyist, member Americans for the Arts’ State Arts Action Network.

Dr. Scott Walters Associate Professor UNC Asheville, Director Center for Rural Arts Development and Leadership Education.

Hors d’oeuvres and wine will be provided
