The Modern Building Envelope System

About this Seminar
Prior to the 20th century, building envelope systems served not only to keep out the weather, but also to act as structural components as well. In today’s modern buildings, the function of supporting the structure has been relegated to a structural skeleton, with the building envelope components serving only to enclose the building.

In this seminar, you will learn the fundamentals of various building envelope systems, common installation pitfalls, how these different components integrate with each other, and how to identify and repair problematic conditions within each unique system.

Takeaways

  • Participants will be able to identify the components of a building that make up a modern building envelope system, using a sample project design.
  • Participants will be able to specify materials and apply installation procedures that help ensure a sound building envelope system, using a sample building project.
  • Participants will be able to create installation procedures that address the complex transitions between one building material to another, using a sample building project.
  • Participants will be able to identify, avoid, and, if necessary, repair problematic conditions and deficiencies within various building envelope systems using sample case studies.
