Construction's Workforce Crisis

For the past two decades we have been talking about the crisis our industry will face when baby boomers start to retire. Guess what? That time is now, and with construction busier than ever, the crisis may be even worse than we anticipated. With mounting pressure on our country’s limited workforce, we must find better and smarter ways to attract good workers and retain the ones we have.

Women and minorities represent a largely untapped resource in our industry. It’s time for construction companies to take a good hard look at their company culture and ask themselves, “Are we doing all we can to welcome women and minorities into our company? Are we creating and honing a workplace environment in which they can grow and develop and where they will want to stay?”

This symposium will explore ways for companies to evaluate their company culture to ensure they are doing all they can to attract often-overlooked talent. Are there “hidden” aspects of your company that could be creating a less-than-ideal environment for all employees? Join a panel of speakers that will help you identify changes that your management team could initiate to help you attract, utilize, develop and retain top talent.

Panelists include:

  • Margaret Rauber, Vice President Operations, The Winter Construction Company
  • Laura Ashby, Attorney, Miller & Martin PLLC
  • Khalid Siddiqi, Professor and Chairman, Construction Management Department, College of Architecture and Construction Management, Kennesaw State University
  • Facilitator: Cynthia Mills, President & CEO, The Leaders' Haven
