In its fifth year, the Pathways from Poverty Breakfast attracts opinion leaders and the interested public from Colorado’s health care, public policy, philanthropic, governmental and nonprofit sectors. The breakfast is presented by Colorado Center on Law and Policy, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research and advocacy organization that engages in legislative, administrative and legal advocacy on family economic security and access to health care for low-income Coloradans.
This event offers participants an opportunity to hear a provocative and influential speaker in an environment that’s conducive to networking and discussion.
Along with a keynote address, CCLP confers our Champion of Economic Justice Award on two Coloradans –a legislative leader and a community member - who have made major contributions to advancing the interests of low-income families and to CCLP.
This Year's Program
This year’s keynote speaker is Anne E. Price, President of the Insight Center for Community Economic Development in Oakland, Calif. Ms. Price has spent more than 20 years working on issues pertaining to child welfare, hunger, welfare reform, workforce development, community development and higher education.
The Insight Center is a national research and advocacy organization that focuses on economic and racial justice. A pioneer in looking at the intersection of race, gender and wealth, Insight has long promoted the importance of wealth to help families weather life’s unpredictable storms. Without some wealth, families are one job loss, illness, or larger economic crises away from seismic disruptions in quality of life. Price’s tireless work has brought racial wealth inequities into mainstream consciousness.
Her remarks will draw on new data and cognitive research that can inform narrative change on race and wealth to foster broad support for wealth-building policies so that people of color are full and equal participants in the economy.
Our Champion of Economic Justice Awards will celebrate the contributions of Sen. Beth Martinez Humenik and Jonathan D. Asher, Esq.
