Alice Bonner, PhD, RN, FAAN
Alice Bonner, Secretary of the Executive Office of Elder Affairs for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, has been a geriatric nurse practitioner caring for older adults and their families for over 25 years. From 2013-2015, she was an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, Bouve College of Health Sciences and a Faculty Associate in the Center for Health Policy at Northeastern University.
From 2009-2011, Dr. Bonner was the Director of the Bureau of Health Care Safety and Quality, at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. From 2011 to 2013, she served as Director of the Division of Nursing Homes in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Bonner’s research interests include quality and safety in health care systems and community-based settings; falls prevention; improving dementia care and reducing unnecessary antipsychotic medication use; and improving care transitions.
Reynold G. Spadoni - President, Partners HealthCare at Home
Rey Spadoni joins Partners HealthCare at Home with over 30 years of experience working within various facets of the health care industry, including as Compliance Director of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Determination of Need Program. At the DON Program, Rey oversaw the department responsible for insuring compliance with approved certificate of need projects within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Additionally, Rey worked as a senior manager within Ernst & Young’s health care consulting practice, serving primarily hospital clients in strategic financial planning, operational turnaround and merger and acquisition assignments. He led tax-exempt financing projects for a number of major building projects in the Boston area and helped facilitate several mergers within the health care industry.
After consulting for nearly a decade, Rey spent the next phase of his career within the managed care industry, working at both Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Neighborhood Health Plan. At Harvard Pilgrim, Rey was responsible for the corporate development function, leading the plan’s expansion into new markets. Additionally, Rey served as the company’s Vice President of Planning and Development with executive responsibility for their managed Medicare product and strategic planning function. At Neighborhood Health Plan, Rey served first as Vice President of Operations and then Vice President of Business Development.
Additionally, Rey led health center operations for Dimock Community Health Center and served as Vice President of Planning for Quincy Medical Center. Most recently, Rey served as President & CEO of the Visiting Nurse Association of Boston, leading the organization through a financial and operational turnaround and securing a number of new partnerships with local hospital systems and medical practices. Working with the VNA of Boston’s Board, Rey sought an acquisition partner for the organization, resulting in a merger with VNA Care Network and affiliation with Atrius Health.
Rey has served on a number of not-for-profit boards, including presently as a member of the boards of the Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce and the South Shore domestic violence agency, DOVE. He has been an active member of the Visiting Nurse Associations of America, National Association for Home Care and Hospice and the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts.
Ken Accardi - Founder & CEO, Ankota
Ken is a Healthcare IT professional who grew up at GE Healthcare where he was CIO for the Service Division and Business Development Unit. He is presently Founder and CEO of Ankota, a software company focused on the delivery of care outside the hospital. Customers include home care, community based care organizations and several major teaching hospitals. Ken also served as CTO and created the technology for iGetBetter (post-acute recovery), the iHopeNetwork (behavioral health), MedNest (accelerator) and served as VP of Engineering for ikaSystems (health plan management). Ken also held VP roles at ViryaNet (IPO and sold to Verisae), and TeleAtlas (sold to TomTom). Ken has degrees in Engineering (BS - Bucknell), Computer Science (MS- Virginia Tech), and an MBA from Babson (focused in entrepreneurship).
Florence Furaha - Founder & CEO, Meetcaregivers
Florence is the Co-founder and CEO of MeetCaregivers. She has over 10 years of experience in elder care, working as a Care Manager and as a caregiver. Florence is an entrepreneur at heart, starting her first business in college (a T-shirt business). After getting her MBA, she joined Bank of America but left to launch MeetCaregivers .com.
MeetCaregivers is a platform that connects families with pre-screened and qualified caregivers for their aging parents at up to 50% less than traditional agencies. It uses technology to make the process easier and safer, and enables families and clinicians to track the care at home.
The company‘s mission is to reduce the cost of homecare and improve coordination to help more seniors receive the care they need , decrease readmission to hospitals, and enable more seniors to age at home longer, and happier.
MeetCaregivers is a winner of 2014 Entrepreneurship for All start-up accelerator in Lowell and is currently a finalist in MassChallenge 2015.
Robert Pahlavan
Robert (Rob) Pahlavan has a sincere passion for Healthcare and has focused on Senior Care for the last 6 years. Currently, he is focused on several projects to improve Healthcare in areas where he believes that he can help to make a difference. Rob was an equity investor in Healthwyse LLC and served as their Chief Executive Officer from the time of the investment until March 2014. Mr. Pahlavan also served as the Chief Operating Officer of HealthWyse, LLC. He served as the Managing Director of Family Equity Partners. Presently he is leading a stealth startup in healthcare with investment from Bayada ventures. Rob received his MBA from Stanford.
