Getting Through Statewide Advising Summit

Join us for the Getting Through Statewide Advising Summit where we will engage, empower and educate institutional teams on 1) Proactive Advising 2) Academic Maps 3) 15 to Finish 4) Co-requisite Model and 5) Financial Supports for Students.

The Summit is designed for institutions to send a team (5-7 people) that consist of advisors, administrators and staff. The summit will also provide a learning space for high school senior counselors who are interested in developing innovative ways to engage students in relevant post-secondary planning.

For Alabama to increase the number citizens with degrees/credentials by 2030, we must implement and facilitate pathways to credentialing, transfer and completion for all students. The impact strategies of such pathways must provide approaches guided by objectives that result in increased completion rates, with a focus on low-income and African-American students. There must be a seamless multi-tiered system of supports for college students at every transition phase to ensure they stay on track to graduation.

CONCURRENT WORKSHOPS II

Purpose First

As more institutions consider guided pathways, greater emphasis is being placed on career outcomes. Too few students are beginning their college experience with an understanding of majors and associated careers.

Complete College America is working to develop a purpose-driven approach to student onboarding and major choice that includes labor market data, return on investment, and academic/personal assessment.

NACADA: Proactive Advising

Too often, students who need the most help are the least likely to ask for it. Or worse, some students don’t realize that they are on the wrong path until it’s too late. This session will focus on tools and strategies that academic advisors can use to identify and connect with students just in time to prevent them from veering off track from graduating on time.

NACADA: Transfer Advising and Articulation

Advisors frequently encounter students with undistributed credit or transfer credit that need to be evaluated. The session will explore policies and processes to facilitate the articulation of such credits.
