2022 Youth Technology Camp

The right skills and education lead to in-demand, high-paying jobs in advanced manufacturing.  Get a head start on your career at the 2022 Youth Technology Camp.   See how next generation manufacturing offers exciting career opportunities for young men and women entering the workforce.  Learn about local businesses and see first-hand what today's manufacturing workplace is all about.  Find out what skills you will need to prepare for a career in advanced manufacturing.  

This 4-day Youth Academy is open to all students entering grades 9-12 in 2022 and will focus on the technologies in our local industries.  The participants will be exposed to plant tours, hands-on workshops, and classroom activities all focusing on the specific industry and technology.   Participants will explore how manufacturing has changed over the years to the lean, clean, high skill, high-tech industry it is today with hands-on activities.  Such activities could include:

  • Lean manufacturing / Six Sigma processes focusing on efficiency, removing waste, and saving money
  • engineering design process, through designing and building structures, or CAD software planning
  • real world application of math concepts through CNC machining environments
  • augmented reality in the workplace
  • automation and robotics

These activities expose the students to leadership, problem-solving, critical thinking, efficiency, completion, collaboration, and other skills.

This academy, structured to present opportunities to participants to participate in hands-on experiences with industry related activities.  The site tours will allow the students to speak with engineers, meet local manufacturers, and explore how manufacturing has evolved into the high-tech, high-skilled industries they are today.

The primary objective is to develop the manufacturing workforce in the high schools.  To this end, the academy:

  • Raise student awareness of manufacturing related careers and their knowledge and skill requirements
  • Improve attitudes and student interest towards industries and manufacturing careers
  • Improve student confidence in their ability to succeed in manufacturing careers and STEM courses
