The New York Declaration on Forests, formalized at the United Nations 2014 Climate Summit, codifies the willingness of 180 governments, companies, indigenous community networks, and civil society organizations to halve natural forest loss by 2020 and end it by 2030. One year on, many of the Declaration’s endorsing companies are already taking action toward their deforestation liabilities – the very types of commitments to sustainable supply chains that are the focus of Forest Trends’ Supply Change project and its most recent report, Firm Commitments: Tracking Company Endorsers of the New York Declaration on Forests.
In this first-ever assessment of company endorsers’ progress toward Declaration goals, Firm Commitments tackles important questions such as “How have companies taken action to meet these targets – after or even before their endorsement of Declaration goals? What are the profiles, commonalities and resources of company endorsers? How many companies are publicly disclosing their progress and what can these early disclosures tell decision-makers about the private sector’s information gaps and implementation needs?”
Forest Trends' Ecosystem Marketplace, which authored the report, and topic experts will address these and other implications of the Declaration at this exciting Climate Week event designed to advance transparency in the implementation of deforestation-free commitments hosted by Rainforest Alliance. In addition to launching the report, Supply Change will celebrate the full launch of its website with 250+ companies now profiled (www.Supply-Change.Org).Agenda:
