Sensing the Holy

An Advent Retreat

Facilitated by Angier Brock

Advent invites us to "keep awake" so as not to miss God's activity in our daily lives. This retreat will invite us to explore, through both journal writing and conversation, how our senses of taste, touch, smell, sight, and sound might be avenues by which the Holy can get our attention, possibly in new and surprising ways. The retreat will also invite us to use our senses as springboards to writing our own prayers, a practice that can help us stay grounded in our bodies and centered in our hearts throughout the Advent season. Bring something to write on and with. Also, if you wish, bring a favorite scent (perhaps a candle or a favorite perfume or fragrant oil) and a sweet or savory snack.

Angier Brock is a former board member of Lumunos and a long-time women’s ministry leader. A retired teacher, and a poet by training, she writes hymn and anthem texts as well as reflective prose. She is an EfM mentor, a Master Naturalist, and a grandmother. Angier lives in Yorktown, VA, where she enjoys watching and photographing birds in her yard and on the nearby battlefield.
