In an environment that requires the utmost safety and redundancy, cyberthreats are particularly dangerous. Aviation and cybersecurity experts from across the country join in the conversation as ATCA once again delves into the intricacies of protecting our National Airspace System (NAS) and the flying public. Our programming series provides a fresh perspective on the impact of federal cybersecurity policies, industry initiatives, and cyber activity on engineering and operations in light of recent domestic and international cyber attacks.
Abstract: The US Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs just released its August 2021 report, “Federal Cybersecurity: America’s Data Still at Risk.” What this report finds is stark. Inspectors general identified many of the same issues that have plagued federal agencies for more than a decade. In fact, according to agency inspectors general, the average grade of the large Federal agencies’ overall information security maturity was a C-. What will it take to achieve success based on the recommendations set forth in this report and in the cybersecurity executive orders? What stands in the way of establishing a robust level of cybersecurity and cyber resilience given the cyber threats experienced these last several months alone? What other changes can we expect as organizations and individuals? Where might small changes across people, process, and technology lead to greater, favorable results?
