Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission’s First Annual Forum and Awards Ceremony

Please join the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission  at the Governor Calvert House in Annapolis for the first annual Sustainable Growth Forum focusing on economic opportunities created by smart growth. The commission will also recognize the significant contributions of individuals, organizations and local governments toward sustainability and positive impact in their communities.

The forum's keynote speaker, Chris Leinberger, will address "Economic Growth chris_leinbergerthrough Smart Growth: How Smart Growth Makes Economic Sense for Maryland." Mr. Leinberger is a noted speaker and author on sustainable growth and “walkable urban places.” He is a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Following the keynote address, the Maryland Sustainable Growth Awards will be presented.

Pre-registration is required to attend the forum and awards ceremony. To register for the event online, click the "Register Now!" button below.

Maryland Sustainable Growth Award recipients are honored for:

Leadership & Service For activities or accomplishments that advance public appreciation, understanding and/or involvement in promoting smart growth and sustainable communities at the local, regional or state level.

Sustainable Communities For facilitating or creating development that addresses at least one or more of Maryland’s 12 Planning Visions.  The Nominations were evaluated in two broad groups: (1) Public projects/programs (2) Private developments.

The Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission advises the Governor, state agencies and the General Assembly on the progress of state, regional and local planning to achieve the goals of Maryland's economic growth, resource protection and planning policy. The legislature created the commission in 2010 as a critically-minded sounding board with a diverse set of stakeholders from across Maryland representing private industry, agriculture, environmental advocacy, academia and state and local governments.
