Weather It Together: Protecting Maryland's Historic Buildings from Floods

Please join us for a day-long workshop on flooding and historic buildings! The program will cover how to plan for nuisance flooding and flood events, discuss professional perspectives on flood mitigation and adaptation, and share tools and resources that you can use in your own community. Local planners, emergency management personnel, historic preservation organizations and interested citizens are encouraged to attend.

Interactive sessions will include:

  • flood insurance, with an overview from the Maryland Department of the Environment and Baltimore City as a case study;
  • hazard mitigation planning, featuring work in Annapolis and Talbot County as well as best practices developed by the Maryland Historical Trust;
  • disaster response and recovery, focused on the partnership efforts in Ellicott City; and
  • adapting historic properties and flood mitigation, with perspectives from the US Army Corps of Engineers and Dominique Hawkins of Preservation Design Partnership, LLC.

Your registration fee of $20, payable at the door, will cover a light breakfast, lunch and coffee for the day.

This workshop is generously supported by the National Park Service through the Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Fund. With special thanks to the City of Annapolis for permission to use Weather It Together statewide.
