Where IS Away?

A Solid Waste and Recycling Workshop

Everyone knows our waste goes away when we dispose or recycle it.

......But where is away?

Join us for a recycling facilitator and educator workshop and explore the tools you need to train others how to teach recycling and to share what you learn with others.

Workshop Info For Recycling Coordinators:

For the past three years, the Division of Environmental Assistance and Outreach (formerly the Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance) has been working with Project Learning Tree to present Where is Away? workshops for educators across the state.

NC Project Learning Tree, in conjunction with DEAO, have received a grant that is providing funds to train recycling/waste coordinators across the state to lead these workshops in their communities.  The Facilitator Training will take part in conjunction with an educator workshop in order for coordinators to see the activities in action.  Facilitators-in-training will learn how to obtain the materials they need for workshops, workshop models that have been a success, how to market your workshop, and what resources are out there to assist you in making your workshop a success, as well as network with educators and other coordinators from around the state.

Attendees will be empowered to train others on solid waste and recycling issues and will:

  • Learn how to lead "Where is Away?" workshops in your communities
  • Receive multiple lessons about solid waste and recycling to share with your trainees
  • Walk away with recycling freebies to educate others about solid waste and recycling
  • Learn how to obtain the materials needed for workshops
  • See workshop models that have been a success
  • Understand how to market your workshop
  • Network with teachers and other recycling coordinators
  • Get new resources to assist you in making your workshop a success

Participants will receive lessons developed by North Carolina Recycling and Waste professionals as well as the Project Learning Tree Secondary Module, Muncipal Solid Waste, to help train others about this issue.

Workshop logistics:
  • There is no cost to attend this workshop.
