SHOP Healthcare Workshop for Small Nonprofit Employers

with speaker Rhea Aguinaldo of Small Business Majority

Did you know that businesses and nonprofits with 50 or fewer employees (100 or fewer starting in 2016) can shop for employee health care plans in the new health benefit exchanges, and possibly even get a tax rebate?

Join us for this timely and engaging workshop to discuss the Affordable Care Act  and what it means for small nonprofit employers in California. We will focus on the key federal and state provisions impacting small employers and what new health insurance options are available. Topics Include:

  • Covered California – a one-stop shop online health insurance marketplace where small businesses and the self-employed can shop for health coverage for their needs and budget
  • Small business tax credits (available to businesses and non-profits) – who is eligible for them and how to claim them
  • New consumer protections
  • New options for employee wellness programs
  • How the law contains health insurance costs
  • Employer and Individual Shared Responsibility
  • Tools and resources available for small organizations

About Rhea Aguinaldo  and Small Business Majority

Rhea Aguinaldo, Northern California OutreachManager  builds relationships with small business owners and business organizations in Northern California. She provides education on key small business policy issues, including the Affordable Care Act and California's new health insurance marketplace–Covered California. Previously, Rhea served as the Deputy Director for California at the National Asian American Coalition where she led statewide advocacy for low-income communities of color and managed technical assistance programs supporting small, diverse businesses. Rhea's passion for small business economic development stems from her mother and father, two immigrant business owners who each started their own healthcare and IT companies when she was young.
