presented by Julie Gibson

Friday, August 11, 2017 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Free: 3 CEU's (IAODAPCA Pending)

We live in a busy, demanding, beautiful world where stress and anxiety are common. In this 3-hour course you will learn and/or expand your knowledge of reliable, evidence-based tools to work skillfully through life’s challenges…and increase your awareness and compassion!

Based on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction model (MBSR) developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, this course uses principles from leading contemporary teachers to help you access your wisdom and big heart. Come learn what  the "mindfulness buzz" is all about!

  • Learn 2 basic elements of the Mindfulness Model (compassion/non-judgement & present moment awareness)
  • Learn 2 methods of practice (breath, loving kindness)
  • Learn the 3 researched effects of Mindfulness (concentration, clarity, compassion)

Presenter: Julie Gibson, LCSW, CADC

Julie has been a clinical social worker since 1996, learning every day that  compassion and awareness  are two of the most powerful healers around. She has worked with urban adolescent after-school programs and mobile assessment crisis teams, and managed housing and support programs for persons with serious mental illness.  Currently, Julie is a therapist at the Veterans Administration certified in two therapies for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, while teaching a weekend mindfulness class to K-5 young people in Woodstock, IL.  Julie is a certified Mindful Schools Instructor and has taught mindfulness skills to The New Berlin School District, Milwaukee Municipal staff, and families in her own neighborhood. Cultivating a personal mindfulness practice since 2004, Julie is happy to support both children and adults as they tap into their own balance and caring.
