Abstract:
People live in story. Story frames how we come to understand our lived experiences and to create meaning and purpose in life. However, stories are created from the subjective interpretation of our lives, and are highly influenced by the contexts in which we, as authors, exist, and include social, cultural, economic, and political contexts, among others. Often, especially when we experience dissatisfaction or trauma, our stories take on a narrow and constricted view of our lived experience, and we tend to experience life from this constricted framework that influences our daily actions and our perspective on the world around us. Of particular interest in the narrative approach, is the re-storying of our lives in ways that lead to a more satisfying outcome for the author. Stories that are fuller, richer, and support a more satisfying outcome.
