Trauma Informed Care Part 2: NOW WHAT?

Who Should Attend: Psychologist (Ph.D), Social Worker (MSW), Mental Health Counselor, 
Mental Health Therapist, and other mental health professionals 
(preferably individuals who attended Part 1). 

Objectives: 

• Discuss implementation efforts fro the different programs to identify successes and challenges.
• Learn SAMHSA’s domains for implementation.
• Learn of practical strategies for implementation and successful examples of implementation.

Summary: 

This training will focus on implementation strategies of trauma informed approaches using SAMHSA’s Principles of Trauma Informed Approaches and Domains for implementation. This will be an interactive session wherein participants will bring to the training successes and challenges. The participants with the assistance of the presenter will develop strategies on how to successfully address these challenges as well as learn from each others’ successes.

About the Presenter: 

Mr. Almazar has many years of experience as direct care provider, administrator, organizational and clinical consultant, trainer, and speaker.  Prior to working as full-time consultant in 2009, he served as Deputy Director for the State of Illinois Division of Mental Health where he was charged to facilitate an organizational culture shift in all 10 State -operated facilities towards person-centered, trauma-informed, recovery-promoting, non-coercive treatment settings.

He is the Senior Public Policy Advisor at the National Association of State Mental Health Program Director’s Center for Innovations in Trauma Informed Approaches. He also served as Senior Consultant to SAMHSA’s National Center for Trauma-Informed Care and Promoting Alternatives to Seclusion and Restraints through Trauma Informed Practices. He provides consultation, training and technical assistance to organizations and large systems in the areas of leadership, workforce development, consumer empowerment, organizational planning and changing organizational cultures to effect systems transformation. He has expertise in working with youth and adult serving, institutional and community based, publicly and privately –funded programs across service systems.
