- Training: Drugs and Housing - Technical and Legal Considerations. Mark Shepard, Co-Founder and President of Apple Environmental, and Ed Goodman, attorney for Hobbs, Straus, Dean, and Walker, LLP, will be presenting both the technical aspects (meth labs vs. user sites, dangers of meth exposure and usage, warning signs of meth usage and cooking, site safety, decontamination methods, the unique dangers of Fentanyl, testing of properties and what is considered safe) and legal aspects (environmental hazards, public safety and property damage, liability and eviction issues), of the drug problems we are all facing in our housing programs.
- Training: IHBG Formula. Mindi D'Angelo (Senior Vice-President of FirstPic) and Odalis Vicencio (Formula Customer Service Center) will provide an overview of the IHBG Formula. Training topics will include basics of the formula components as well as when and how to report changes. The training will have a heavy focus on Formula Current Assisted Stock (FCAS) units. Discussions will be held on how and when to report units that are conveyance eligible, vacant, or converted as well as what to do if project counts do not match. Other topics include the difference between tribal enrollment and Needs data, and formula area.
- Presentation: 184 Program Consultation. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is publishing a proposed rule on the Section 184 Indian Home Loan Guarantee (Section 184) program. Since these proposed regulations have substantial direct effect on Federally recognized Tribal governments, Deana O'Hara, Senior Advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary, will be leading a consultation at our Winter Meeting to provide a brief overview of the proposed rule, its impact on Tribes and Tribal borrowers, and to listen to comments on the proposed rule from attendees.
- Presentations: We are in the process of finalizing several other excellent presentations that we're sure will be of interest to our members. More information will be coming very soon.
- Banquet: Former NWIHA Director and auctioneer Joe Diehl will be on hand to conduct our Annual Youth Scholarship Auction. This is also an opportunity to meet with our Associate Members.
