What will we be doing?

Learn to Sail & the Physics behind Sailing!

Students will  will be learning knot tying, line handling, safety on land, chart reading and navigation skills as well as how to use the wind and tide.  Girls will be learning to sail in El Toro wooden sailboats and how to work in teams.  Sailing section is open enrollment for both boys and girls.

Students need to be prepared to go out rain or sun; bring an extra set of dry clothing.

Sailing lessons are planned and timed to when the weather is the warmest and days longest for both Spring and Fall programs.  Students sail in the afternoons from September 15-October 13th; and engage in robotics/steamboat/marine vessel design exploration in the morning.

 Hands-on Building an Underwater Robot!

This portion of the program is limited to girls only.  For several weeks girls will create/build robots as well as test them before exploring lake union with them,  learn about steam engines, & explore steam boats, determine what physics principals are the same between sail boats, steam boats and underwater robots, explore bathymetric charting, and have fun!**
