  • Opt for one or two popular hands-on sessions on (either social media for writers or readings for writers, details below; extra $40 fee applies) 
  • Book a blue pencil session with a professional to get feedback on your manuscript (details follow; extra $40 fee applies) - this is a 40-minute session, and the rest of your morning is free 
  • Opt to participate in a genre-specific writing circle of your peers (no charge)

CanWrite! 2012 Conference 

CanWrite! 2012 is the Canadian Authors Association's 91st national writers' conference.

Each year, CanWrite! celebrates Canadian literature, provides an educational forum and networking opportunities for professional, emerging and aspiring writers from across Canada, and supports writers in the development and promotion of their work.

This year's conference will be held May 17 to 21 at Lakehead University Orillia Campus in Orillia, Ontario. The timing is perfect -- Orillia is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town written by CAA founding member Stephen Leacock.

Who should come?

This conference is designed for anyone who writes, wants to write or wants to get back into writing. Whether you're an aspiring writer or an accomplished professional, there will definitely be something there for you.

How much does it cost?

CAA Member

  • Full conference (includes all scheduled meals): $350 
  • One-day registration (includes meals for that day only): $140**
  • Student member rate: $275/full conference; $100/1 day registration

Affiliate: Member of another national or regional writing, editing or publishing organization

  • Full conference (includes all scheduled meals): $375
  • One-day registration (includes meals for that day only): $150**
  • Student registration: $300/full conference; $125/1 day registration

Non-member

  • Full conference (includes all scheduled meals): $390
  • One-day registration (includes meals for that day only): $175**
  • Student registration: $325/full conference; $150/1 day registration

** Two-day registrations are possible, but due to system limitations you need to register separately for each day. Contact us if you have any problems.

CanWrite! 2012 Accommodations in Orillia 

 Accommodation during the conference is not included in the conference registration fee, and you are responsible for making your own reservations. We have arranged for special conference rates for a block of rooms at the Lakehead University Residence and at two hotels in Orillia: Best Western Mariposa Inn & Conference Centre and Quality Hotel Champlain Waterfront.
