North Korea continues a headlong rush to achieve its stated ambition: a credible nuclear weapons program that can deter and threaten the United States. After successful ICBM tests this summer, U.S. analysts conceded that North Korea’s missile program is much more advanced than previously believed. It will potentially be capable of delivering a warhead to the continental United States in as little as a year’s time. What strategic calculus guides Kim Jong-un’s decision-making and how can it be altered? How does China think of North Korea in strategic terms and what does that tell us about the prospects to resolve the crisis? Please join us for a conversation with two of the nation’s leading experts on North Korea and China as they discuss the implications of the current crisis for the region and U.S. national security.
This event is open to the public and press on a first-come basis, but registration is required. Please register above no later than Friday, October 6th if you would like to attend. If you have any questions, please contact CNA_NSS@cna.org.
