Guided Bird Tour of Green Island - TOUR FULL

Wood duck. Photo by Gary Halsiki.

Visit the McKenzie River Trust’s 1,000-acre property just downstream of the confluence of the Willamette and the McKenzie rivers. Ornithologist Dan Gleason will be your guide to this landscape, which MRT has been restoring to enhance habitat for fish and wildlife and the active floodplain since 2003. The property is home to hundreds of birds -- 46 different species were spotted in a recent count. Bring your binoculars! This tour is open to all skill levels. Only an interest in nature is necessary.

About your tour leader: Dan Gleason is the author of Birds! From The Inside Out, an introductory textbook about birds, richly illustrated by his wife, Barbara. He is a retired faculty member of the Biology Department at the University of Oregon, where has taught Field Ornithology for many years. Dan has been actively involved in environmental education throughout the Eugene area leading field trips, workshops and volunteer guide training. Each month, he writes a column, Backyard Habitats, for The Register Guard and he is a frequent guest speaker at schools, bird festivals, and organizations throughout the Pacific Northwest where he enjoys sharing his knowledge and interest in birds and the natural world.

This tour is now full. Please contact Liz to be added to the wait list -- tour spots frequently do open up at the last minute. Visit our website to see the McKenzie River Trust's other spring events and tours.
