Part One: Presentation
Topic: Five Effective Networking Tips for Engineers I Wish I Knew Starting Out
Presenter: Doug Provins, PE, GE at San Diego Gas & Electric

From Doug:

Your engineering degree, engineering license, and engineering proficiency were important foundations for the start of your engineering career. But what is next? Your technical prowess alone may not be enough to get you to where you want to go. I assure you that your ability to talk to and network with the right people will propel your professional and personal life faster and further than any new engineering skill.

After 25+ years I have had a number of networking successes and have definitely had room for improvement. I have also observed and the successes and failures of others. This presentation lays out five networking tips that I wish I had known 25 years ago when I was starting out. If you are looking for ideas on how to advance your career, this presentation will be worth your time.

Part Two: Speed Networking

Get to know your fellow YMF members while expanding your professional network during an exciting series of brief interactions designed to help develop your networking skills.  Don’t forget to bring business cards.
