Ornament -- that which beautifies and adds grace to our buildings -- plays a more important role in our everyday experience and well-being than previously understood. Join Matthew McNicholas, AIA, for a 2-day hands-on class to explore the science-based case for the use of ornament in architecture.
Matthew is a Principal with MGLM Architects in Chicago and heads the Preservation Committee of the Auxiliary Board for Louis Sullivan’s Auditorium Theatre.
This is Part II of a two part series. Didn't attend the first class? No problem - you can still join us for Part II and gain greater understanding of the purpose and importance of ornament in architecture.
What you will learn:
1. Understand how ornament can benefit human health
2. Integrate ornament into different building materials
3. Use principles from nature and precedent in designing architectural ornament
4. Use ornament appropriately to maximize its impact on health and well-being
